Installation & Maintenance Guide for Lunigiana Marble Honed Tiles
Important Information
-
Professional Installation Recommended: Marble is a natural luxury stone, and correct installation is essential for both beauty and longevity. Methods may vary depending on the substrate — always ensure the correct system is used for your surface.
-
Prepare the Surface: Before installation, ensure the substrate is level, clean, dry, and secure. Any movement or instability may cause cracking over time.
-
Natural Beauty & Variation: As with all premium natural stone, colour tones and veining will vary between tiles. This is part of marble’s unique beauty. For the best finish, select and blend tiles before fixing.
-
Decoupling Membrane: We highly recommend the use of a decoupling membrane — particularly where underfloor heating is present — to provide additional protection against movement.
-
Fragility in Delivery: Minor edge chipping may occur during transport. These tiles can be used for cuts without compromising the installation.
-
Size & Thickness: Natural stone is crafted, not manufactured. Subtle tolerances in size and thickness are normal and should be accommodated during installation.
Adhesive
-
Flexible Adhesive Only: Always use a high-quality flexible adhesive to allow for minor movement and thermal changes, particularly with heated floors.
-
White Adhesive: Use a white powdered adhesive with marble to prevent staining, shadowing, or colour bleed through the stone.
-
Setting Time: Standard set adhesive requires up to 24 hours curing time, while fast-set adhesive can cure in approximately 6 hours.
-
Full Bed Application: Marble should always be laid on a full bed of adhesive to ensure strength and stability.
Grout
-
Flexible Grout Recommended: Use a premium flexible grout to allow for natural expansion and contraction.
-
Joint Widths: Select grout joint widths that accommodate slight variations in tile dimensions. For intricate layouts such as opus patterns or free-length designs, multiple grout widths may be required.
-
Timing: Apply grout only once the adhesive is fully cured and the initial sealant coat has been applied.
Sealing & Protection
-
Essential Step: Sealing is vital to protect marble from staining and enhance its natural beauty.
-
Before & After Grouting: Apply one coat of a specialist natural stone sealant prior to grouting, and a second coat after installation is complete.
-
Maintenance: Depending on traffic, resealing is typically required every 6–12 months to maintain the stone’s protective barrier.
-
Cleaning: Avoid acidic or harsh chemical cleaners as these can degrade the sealant and damage the marble. Instead, use pH-neutral products designed specifically for natural stone.
Ongoing Care & Maintenance
-
Routine Cleaning: Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove dust and grit that may scratch the surface. Mop with a soft cloth and pH-neutral stone cleaner.
-
Protective Measures: Use mats at entrances and felt pads beneath furniture to reduce scratching and wear.
-
Spill Management: Wipe spills immediately, especially acidic substances such as wine, citrus juice, or vinegar, which can etch marble if left uncleaned.
-
Long-Term Elegance: With correct care, your Lunigiana Marble will mature beautifully over time, retaining its luxurious elegance for decades.
